Leah Remini Sat Down With Rumored Scientologist Jada Pinkett Smith, and This Is What Happened

Jada Pinkett Smith and Leah Remini recently sat down for a chat, nearly shed a few tears, and made amends once and for all. And if this event doesn't seem monumental to you, perhaps it's because you need a quick refresher on the pair's former Scientology-fueled feud. Let's dive in, shall we? 

The whole thing seems to have started when Remini told a bizarre story about famously devout Scientologist Tom Cruise in her 2015 book, Troublemaker. In the book, the actress claimed that Cruise once wanted to play an adult game of hide-and-seek with his pals, who included Pinkett Smith. When she appeared later on Watch What Happens Live With Andy Cohen, Pinkett Smith swatted the story aside, claiming that Remini overplayed the weirdness of the whole ordeal. 

After that, Remini told The Daily Beast that she knew Pinkett Smith was a member of the controversial church. Still following? OK, then, Pinkett Smith's play: The Girls' Trip actress later took to Twitter to deny the rumor in no uncertain terms. "I practice human kindness," she wrote pointedly. End of story, done. 

So, it came as a surprise to many that the two decided to sit down and hash it out in front of cameras for Pinkett Smith's Facebook Live series, Red Table Talk. And, darn it if we didn't get a little misty-eyed over the humanity of it all. In short, both women came across as incredibly decent. 

To start, Pinkett Smith admitted that Remini had reached out to her, "which was really huge of her, because I don't know if I'm that big!" 

So, yes: Pinkett Smith admitted that she took some courses at the Scientology Center and was interested in its teaching method, Study Tech. But that, she insists, is as far as it went. 

Remini started by thanking her host for having her in the most sincere way. "I come with this open heart, and I know that you invited me with an open heart," Remini said. Aww. The Troublemaker author then admitted that when she wrote her book, she didn't even consider that she may have hurt Pinkett Smith and her husband. 

"And when the thing happened on Bravo, I was floored. I was really like, wow, not only is she in Scientology, but they sent Jada out!" she explained. Remini believed that Pinkett Smith was downplaying her story by using a policy from Scientology "that calls for the utter destruction of a critic of Scientology."
