Gabrielle Union Took Her 11-Year-Old Stepson to Miami Pride Because "It's Part of Being a Global Citizen"

Gabrielle Union reflected on why she involved her whole household in the Pride event.

Why Gabrielle Union brought family to Miami Pride 2019

Gabrielle Union's household (sans husband Dwyane Wade) recently sported colorful rainbow attire when they attended the Miami Beach Pride Festival. They appeared to happily do so in support of her 11-year-old stepson, Zion Wade.

“It feels normal,” she admitted to Us Weekly. “My mom took me to my first pride at eight years old. We moved to San Francisco, and it’s kind of part of being a global citizen. People talk a lot about diversity and inclusion, but they don’t actually mean it. In our household, we mean that, and that’s why the entire household went to pride.”

Union was all smiles at the Miami Beach Pride Festival, which she attended with stepson Zion (whose father is Union's husband, Wade), and her 5-month-old daughter, Kaavia Wade. Zion's 17-year old brother, Zaire Wade, also attended to support his younger brother.

"Gotcha back kid," Zion's 17-year old brother Zaire, who attended with the family, wrote on Instagram Stories alongside a picture of him with his arm around Zion.

"Love you lil bro no matter what," he also wrote.

Wade, who was not in attendance, shared the picture of Zion and Zaire and wrote, "Wish I was there to see you smile kid!”

This is so wonderful to see because as one's personal identity is explored and formed, it's important to have family support from a young age.
