Up Your Bun Game With This Braided Twist
Justine Marjan, a Project Runway hairstylist, shows you how to take your bun game to the next level with this easy tutorial.
April showers call for simple, rain-proof hairstyles: something you can sport at work, happy hour with friends, or a picnic without having to worry about a few unexpected raindrops ruining your look. A slicked-back bun meets all of these requirements — and thanks to TRESemmé Global Stylist Justine Marjan, we just found a way to take this look to a new level.
Taking a cue from a recent hairstyle on Project Runway, Marjan took a simple bun and transformed it into a trendy, cool-girl ‘do by adding in a French braid.
Follow the steps below to achieve this elevated bun:
Start by straightening your hair with a flat iron. Spray hair to protect it with TRESemmé Thermal Creations Heat Tamer Protective Spray.
Create a one-inch French braid down the center of your head going from the front of your hairline to the crown of your head.
Next, apply TRESemmé Extra Hold Hair Gel to the roots and brush hair into a ponytail just beneath the crown.
Leave the loose end of the braid outside of the ponytail (it should lay on top of the ponytail). Secure the ponytail with an elastic.
Grab a strand of hair from the ponytail and loop it around the elastic. Then, grab the loose end of the braid and secure it to the top of the ponytail base with a bobby pin.
Lastly, twist the ponytail and loose end of the braid into a bun, and secure with a bobby pin.
