You’ll Never Believe How Many People Patricia Altschul Has on Staff at Her House
It takes a LOT of hands to keep the Southern Charm matriarch's Charleston estate in tip-top shape.
Patricia Altschul's estate is far from your ordinary Charleston house. The grand 10-bedroom home has served as the backdrop for many iconic moments in Southern Charm history, and you better believe its walls are filled with secrets. Since we at Home & Design are so intrigued by this 9,500-square-foot mansion, we invited Patricia to Bravo HQ to spill the tea on her not-so-humble abode. (Watch the video above to see.)
Among our many burning questions was this: How many people does it take to keep Patricia's place up and running? We're all familiar with Patricia's adorable butler Michael, but the caftan queen explains that he's just one of many people who tend to her fortress: "It's funny because I've gotten direct messages from people saying, 'You know, it's terrible the way you make poor Michael do everything in that house.' The fact of the matter is, I have a staff."
So, what exactly does said staff consist of? Patricia explains housekeepers and laundresses (note the plural!) are accompanied by "cooks on occasion, you know, for special events or for parties." There's even a vegetarian chef that stops by whenever Patricia's son Whitney is in town.
We're still not done. There's "a sea of other people," notes Patricia, including the pond guy, the pool guy, the boxwood guy, and the roof guy: "It takes a lot to maintain a house like that."
Wow! Watch the video above to hear more incredible secrets of Patricia's home.
