Cameran Eubanks Opens Up About Her Postpartum Hair Loss: “I Wasn’t Prepared”
“I was aware of a thing called postpartum hair loss, I was not aware to the extent that it would happen," the Southern Charm mama shared.
Ever since Cameran Eubanks first announced in 2017 that she was pregnant with her now 8-month-old daughter Palmer Wimberly, the new mama has remained open and honest about her motherhood journey. The Southern Charm pal has kept it real about everything from her experience with breastfeeding to her new mommified beauty routine. Now, Cameran is opening up about her struggle with postpartum hair loss in the hopes of helping other mothers who are also dealing with this. (Catch up on SC here.)
Cameran first revealed she was experiencing hair loss back in March, in an Instagram post. In the image, the Charleston mama held a chunk of her own hair that had fallen out in her hand. “The Victoria Secret hair was fun while it lasted. #PostPartumShed #HopefullyItGrowsBack," she wrote in the caption.
“When I posted the picture I made a decision that, with having Palmer, I wanted to be honest about my experience. And the response I got with women was like ‘Oh my God, that happened to me,'” Cameran recently shared at a breakfast in New York City with haircare brand Keranique.
She also shared that she first noticed a significant amount of hair loss around her hairline: “I was aware of a thing called postpartum hair loss, I was not aware to the extent that it would happen. When I stopped breastfeeding, all these hormones that you have all of sudden leave your body, and my hair started coming out in clumps and would clog the shower drain. I wasn’t prepared. I was nervous, and I was like ‘when is this gonna stop?’”

Soon after her hair loss discovery, Cameran came across Keranique (a hair regrowth system that contains a keratin and vitamin-infused shampoo, conditioner, mask, and spray), which has tremendously helped her regain her hair’s fullness. “I wash my hair every other day, so I use it just like a regular shampoo and conditioner, and then I use… one of my favorite products, the Lift and Repair Spray. It does very, very well at blocking humidity, but it’s also very lightweight. I have issues a lot of the times with products being too heavy, but because this is addressed to hair regrowth it keeps it pretty lightweight so your hair still has volume,” she said.
The SC pal is also a fan of the brand's Micro-Exfoliating Follicle Revitalizing Mask: "I’m a dry shampoo freak and I load my hair with dry shampoo. But the problem is it can clog your follicles. [Keranique has] this product that is an exfoliating treatment that you actually rub on your scalp and it like deeply cleanses your scalp, but at the same time it conditions your hair, it’s really interesting," she said. “Immediately your hair just feels amazing. I mean the first time I used the exfoliating treatment, my hair just felt so much fuller and cleaner.”

According to the American Academy of Dermatology, many new moms see noticeable hair loss after having a baby. The condition, which dermatologist refer to as "excessive hair shedding," is caused by falling estrogen levels. Fortunately, the condition is temporary (many women see their hair restored to normal by their child’s first birthday), and using the right hair care products, such as a volumizing shampoo and a lightweight conditioner or treatment, can help meanwhile women regain their normal hair fullness.
