3 Easy Ways to Upgrade Your Kids’ Room From a Top Interior Designer

For every phase of their childhood.

The Perks of Having an Interior Designer BFF

It’s inevitable that as your kids get older they will quickly outgrow things like clothes, toys, and even their rooms. It may be hard to accept mom, but if your child is completely over the cartoon decals, it may time to spruce up their space.

Now, we know that aside from struggling with the emotional acceptance that your child is growing up, re-doing a room can also seem like a costly and overwhelming task. But according to Sweet Home Oklahoma’s Jennifer Welch, it doesn’t have to be. For those who haven't tuned into Sweet Home Oklahoma yet (and we highly suggest you do ASAP), Jennifer is an expert interior designer. And as a mother-of-two as well she certainly has kids décor down to a science.

When it comes to making over a kids' room Jennifer advises that less is more. “Do not spend a lot of money because kids are fickle, and they go through such different phases in their lives,” she told Most Wanted. Instead of making major changes she tells clients to invest in easily interchangeable décor options like art and throw pillows. “The number one thing that I try to tell clients is do not under any circumstances paint the walls because wall colors are a lot more difficult, mess, and smell to change,” she said.

Below are a few of Jennifer’s go-to statement pieces that will easily help you give your kids the room of their dreams, minus the hassle.

“Restoration Hardware has great bunk beds for smaller kids all the way up to teenagers. Kids loves bunk beds. Knotted Hanging Chair

Jennifer's Pick: Anthropologie Knotted Melati Hanging Chair

“I just did for a client their teenagers room. And we ordered this white chair and I had it mounted from the ceiling. It’s just this fabulous chair that hangs from the ceiling and it has no legs on it. We tossed pillows in it from a custom company named John Robshaw, he has this fabulous fabric line with all different colors. And we did her whole room in every shade of blue so light blue, royal blue and navy blue. But the chair is white, and I threw in all the tone on tone pillows, and it is adorable.”
