Mayra Farret Shares How Her Mexican Heritage Influences Her Style
The Texicanas mom dishes on her "more is more" approach to fashion.
In the Season 1 premiere of Texicanas, Mayra Farret was introduced to us as the “perfectionist” of the cast. After getting to know Mayra a bit better throughout the season, there is another term that also comes to mind when we think of her: style queen. The San Antonio mom has an incredibly colorful and chic sense of style with a next-level wardrobe to match. But as we’ve recently learned, her passion for fashion goes far beyond dressing to the nines for themed-parties and shopping at the best boutiques in Texas. (Tune into the Texicanas Season 1 finale tonight at 10:30/9:30c.)
Mayra told The Lookbook that her Mexican roots have a strong influence on her bold style, and she often wears pieces from Mexican-based designers like Carlos Pineda and Daniel Espinosa. Currently, Mayra is working to help highlight Mexican fashion in the U.S.
“I’m a part of Fashion Group International San Antonio, which is a non-profit organization that supports local designers. Hopefully with this opportunity, I can be a platform or a bridge to connect Mexican designers with FGI San Antonio and promote a little bit of our fashion,” she told The Lookbook. Additionally, Mayra revealed that she's collaborating with Fashion for Good, a platform for sustainable fashion innovation.
Below, Mayra shares more insight on her personal style, plus her best fashion tips.
How would you define your style?
Mayra Farret: I think it’s edgy but classy at the same time. I’m Mexican and color blocking is my thing, according to each season. For spring I like pastel colors. For summer I like bright colors. Maybe darker colors in the fall and winter, but color is definitely my thing.
What are your wardrobe must haves?
I love blazers and jackets and t-shirts, definitely. But I also love dresses — I consider myself to be very feminine. I’m also a big fan of jewelry. I love big jewelry — that’s a very Mexican thing. It can make a statement.
Out of those items, what is the one piece every fashionista should own?
I would say a white blazer because you can wear it in the summer or during the winter.
Who are some of your favorite fashion designers/brands?
That’s a tough one. I love Carlos Pineda from Mexico. I think Alice + Olivia is fun, it’s youthful, and it’s not that crazy expensive for designer clothing. Who else do I love? Cinq à Sept. Julia y Renata. There are many other Mexican designers as well.
Do you have a fashion motto?
More is more and less is a bore.
Who (excluding yourself) has the best style in the Texicanas cast?
Lorena. She’s the closest to my style.
