Last night's emotional episode of The Real Housewives of Miami saw Alexia Echevarria breaking down to confess some of her biggest fears to her troubled son, Peter, including the fact that she was once suicidal and still constantly worries about something bad happening.
On a follow-up appearance on Watch What Happens Live, Alexia admits that she had never shared this with him before because she thought she was protecting him. "It was one of those moments and I had never had those moments with him as an adolescent," she says.
She also recently wrote in a blog post that the two of them "got so many things off our chest. I've forced myself to talk to him about things in the past that were so hurtful that I never wanted him to know, but I have realized now they were important to speak about and clarify, like his Dad."
Andy Cohen asked Alexia about her ex-husband and she confirmed that he lives in Miami and that he has a relationship with both of her sons.
She said that although he was always involved in their sons' lives, it was "not like he is today. After Frankie's accident he's much more involved because we need him. We all need each other."
Alexia has spent much of the past year dealing with 15-year-old Frankie's slow recuperation from a horrific car accident and 21-year-old Peter's recent arrest. Despite the strife, the tough mom remains optimistic. "Things today are so much better, and I have faith they will be just fine," she wrote on her blog. "I'm not giving up until we get there."
