Back when Alexis Bellino was a tyke in Missouri, she spent her summer vacations soaking up the sun and was only permitted a half hour of "veg out" time on the couch. "These days it seems like so many kids prefer to stay indoors, playing video games, even when it's gorgeous outside," the Real Housewives of Orange County star blogs.
Step away from the controllers, mini Bellinos, and enjoy that perfect Southern California weather. Alexis is giving moms everywhere her tips to separate the kids from their Angry Birds. "If your child is superglued to the PlayStation, xBox, or TV, learn how to bargain without begging," the mom of three blogs. "Here's something I learned from a mom on Twitter: Every 30 minutes of outdoor play is rewarded with 10 minutes of video game play with a limit of no more than one hour of video games per day (imagine how much outside time that means!)." For her own son and twin daughters, Alexis allows 15 minutes of Nintendo in the morning and another 15 after dinner.
Next, the leggy blonde suggests going green together. "Start a Garden! This is a great way to get the kids outside and they'll learn about fruits and veggies too! It doesn't have to be a huge, elaborate production. Spend $20 on seeds, soil, and gloves." Not the green thumb type? You're not alone. A continues, "If you are less of a gardener, like myself, I simply bought two flower pots, dirt, and some pumpkin seeds, and we made a mini garden in a flower pot!"
Alexis serves up more ideas to get your family up and moving on her official website.
