Andy Cohen Opens up About Why He Decided to Rehome Wacha
The WWHL host also shared an update on how his beloved dog is doing in his new home.
Andy Cohen is opening up about his decision to rehome his beloved rescue beagle, Wacha. The Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen host discussed the difficult choice on his radio show and revealed how Wacha is doing now.
During his SiriusXM show, Radio Andy, on June 8, Andy revealed that he first began thinking about the possibility of rehoming Wacha after a behavioral incident involving the dog.
"I don't think I have to tell you guys how much I love Wacha, I mean that kind of speaks for itself, but something happened with Wacha, the day actually we were taping the Below Deck reunion," he said, per E! News. "It was not great and I don't really care to go into it."
After consulting with the rescue organization, his dog trainer, and several friends and family members, Andy ultimately decided that the safest choice for his 1-year-old son, Benjamin, was to find Wacha a new home.
"Basically, everyone I respect who is involved in the animal rescue field and who has known about my journey with Wacha," he explained. "And it was the unanimous view that I should find a very happy home for him."
Though Andy says the experience was “such a heartbreak,” he also assured fans that it was the right decision and that Wacha is thriving in his new home in Connecticut. "Wacha is happy. I mean, he’s so happy,” he said, also adding that he plans to “see him still.”
Andy first confirmed that Wacha had moved in with a new family in May. “When I think of him - let’s be honest, when don’t I think of him - it’s with the clarity that we were meant to come into each other’s lives exactly when we did and that he’s happy, which gives me peace of mind,” he wrote in an Instagram post at the time. “We did rescue each other. Thank you, Wacha.”
