Andy Cohen Reveals the Backstory of His Dazzling The Bravos Opening Number
The WWHL host admitted he was both "excited and nervous" for the BravoCon 2023 performance.
Andy Cohen is a true showman.
As the de facto face of BravoCon 2023, the late-night talk show host delivered many viral moments throughout the three-day convention; the most impressive of which was his opening number at The Bravos — the inaugural awards ceremony that took place at the Paris Theater in Las Vegas. Andy kicked off the show with a lively and amusing performance that saluted the network’s most memorable moments.
“If you love our network shows and every moment makes you drool, we say ‘Bravo,’” he sang on stage alongside a group of dancers. “If all you’ve thought about since March is Vanderpump Rules, we say, ‘Bravo.’ If you dream of taking orders from the Stud of the Sea or if you shout, ‘How many sandwiches have you made for me?’; if you’ve been a fans since that first family van, ‘Bravo.’”
Andy Cohen rehearsed for The Bravos every morning
The number was, of course, stacked with cameos by everyone from Vanderpump Rules’ James Kennedy and Ariana Madix to The Real Housewives of New York City’s Erin Lichy and Brynn Whitfield to The Real Housewives of Potomac’s Candiace Dillard Bassett. The performance not only drew tons of laughs and thunderous applause, it also reminded viewers of Bravo’s place in pop culture.
The Watch What Happens Live host reflected on the experience in a Sunday, November 5, Instagram post, shortly before the ceremony's broadcast.
“Tonight, ‘The Bravos’ (10:15 pm ET) open with a song I’ve been rehearsing every morning as I walk Ben to school,” Andy captioned the performance video. “He thinks I came to Vegas just to sing my song! (And I kind of did). I’ve been so excited and nervous about attempting to sing in front of 120 Bravolebrities and all of you!”
Andy Cohen says this performance mistake made him "furious"
Andy revealed he had also lost his voice on the night of The Bravos, but he managed to pull through and handled it like a pro.
“So many thanks to the brilliant Dylan MarcAurele who wrote the perfect award show opener and helped me face my fears,” he continued. “And my apologies to choreographer Jaimee Gallego for messing up the kick line. I am FURIOUS at myself and we could’ve edited around it but it happened and so… what can I say. I wanted to nail it all but I messed up! ALSO – The Bravos are so FUN, and there’s an extended version streaming on Peacock later this week featuring more awards, Squash that Beef, and extra fun that we had to cut for the premiere.”
