Are Kat Held and Sam Orme from Below Deck Season 1 Friends? (ALUM UPDATE)

The former stews' lives look very different since their Below Deck days.

By Shannon Raphael

Long before Captain Kerry Titheradge took over the helm and years before Fraser Olender completed a dinner service on screen, the debut season of Below Deck featured a different set of yachties.

How to Watch

Watch Below Deck on Peacock and the Bravo App.

Kat Held worked as a stew on the first two seasons of Below Deck, and she befriended fellow stew, Samantha "Sam" Orme. Along the way, she also got involved in a boatmance with Chef Ben Robinson (who went on to appear on a few more seasons of Below Deck, and on Below Deck Mediterranean).

Viewers got the chance to catch up with Kat back on an episode of Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen in 2020, but what else is she up to today?

Are Kat Held and Sam Orme Still Friends?

Neither Sam nor Kat has shared a recent update on their friendship. Kat still follows Sam on Instagram, but Sam does not follow Kat.

Back in 2015, Kat spoke about how she had been maintaining a friendship with Sam.

"Sam and I shared a special moment together during Season 1. I have visited her family since and even got to go out on the catamaran that her father built with his own two hands," she told The Daily Dish.
"We stay in touch as much as possible."

Where is Kat Held from Below Deck Season 1 now?

After appearing on the first two seasons of Below Deck, Kat decided to take on a new career.

"I realized it was time to go down a different path and try something new," she told The Daily Dish in 2015. "I decided to quit the yachting industry and move home to Rhode Island. I got a job right away working as a waitress in a very busy restaurant in Newport, and I also bartended at a yacht club."

In 2017, Kat confirmed that she was in nursing school.

Fast-forward to January 2020, and Kat appeared on Watch What Happens Live With Andy Cohen alongside other yachties to celebrate the 100th episode of Below Deck.

Since then, Kat has pivoted, once again, in her career. Per her Instagram, Kat is behind The Lapidary Shop account. In the account's bio, Kat notes that she is a "collector, seller, and buyer of gemstones, crystals, rocks, minerals, fossils, and jewelry" and she's an "Archeology [and] Gemology Enthusiast," and she's a "Content Creator." Kat promoted the account on her feed on March 23, and she's shared four videos on the page since.

Kat otherwise hasn't shared many life updates on her public Instagram feed.

Where Is Samantha "Sam" Orme from Below Deck Season 1 Now?

Sam, who only appeared on the first season of the yachting series, has also pivoted out of yachting.

In 2019, Sam got married to Brad Ulmer, who is in the United States Coast Guard. The two have since welcomed two daughters together, Blake and Molly, who are frequent fixtures on Sam's Instagram feed
