Everything We Learned About Kyle and Carl’s Beef on the Summer House Season 7 Premiere
The two, who have been friends since before Summer House began, spoke separately about their work tension on the premiere.
Best friends Kyle Cooke and Carl Radke may work together at Loverboy, but it’s not all love between them on Summer House Season 7.
On the February 13 premiere, fans learned that things have been strained at work between the Loverboy founder and his VP of sales, and that their issues have bled into their friendship as well.
Though Carl and Kyle didn’t address their problems head-on, they did share their perspectives in confessionals, and they also spoke about them to their respective partners, Lindsay Hubbard and Amanda Batula, in the premiere.

Carl has been questioning his role at Loverboy
After Carl and his now-fiancée, Lindsay Hubbard, learned that only one other guy would be in the house for the summer (Chris Leoni), Carl couldn’t hide his disappointment.
“I love Kyle to death, but we work together [and] we spend a lot of time with each other,” Carl explained in an interview about his reaction to the news. “And to be honest, lately it’s been a little rocky. [I’m] still trying to figure out, is Loverboy for me? It would be nice, I don’t know, to mix it up a little bit.”
Kyle isn’t a fan of the “new normal” in the house
Carl, Kyle, and Lindsay have spent many summers together in the Hamptons, but Amanda’s husband feels like things have changed for the worse on Season 7.
When Lindsay and Carl turned in for bed early on the first night so they would be well rested for an early-morning workout class, Kyle wasn’t exactly impressed.
“Carl was sober all last summer, but he wasn’t running around with, like, a clipboard being like, ‘Hey, so are you in for the 8 a.m. workout? Can I count you in? Can I count you in? Don’t want to miss you. Don’t want to miss out,’” Kyle said in his own interview.
“If this is the new normal, I’m going to jump out of my window,” he concluded.
Amanda admitted that Kyle is “sad he lost his buddy” in Carl
After the first night, a few of the ladies convened to talk about what went down. When newbie Gabby Prescod pointed out that it seemed like everyone “tensed up” when Carl and Lindsay arrived, Amanda shared that Kyle has been trying to adjust to the fact that his longtime pals are now dating.
“I think Kyle might be a little sad he lost his buddy,” Amanda told the ladies.
Later on, when the cast members headed out for a pool party, Kyle told Mya Allen that he was “overthinking everything” about his work relationship and friendship with Carl.
“These are two of my best friends dating — you’d think I’d be jumping up and down,” he said, though he confirmed that he is supportive and wants them to be “amazing together.”
“The guy just officiated my wedding, and I hardly even recognize him,” Kyle continued.
Kyle is “scared to death” to talk to Carl about their work and personal issues
As Kyle explained to Mya, he felt a shift in his work relationship with Carl as well.
“I’ll be honest, work-wise, we’re a little weird too,” Kyle admitted to Mya at the pool party. In an interview, he referred to the situation as “challenging.”
“The irony here is that it’s never been challenging up until recently,” he said. ’Since April, Carl has been checked out. Obviously, there’s a new influence in his life.”
“I’m so scared to death to talk to him,” Kyle said. “That’s why I’m avoiding him.”
They both acknowledged that they need to talk to each other
Though Kyle expressed some hesitations about speaking to Carl, the housemates recognized that they needed to chat one-on-one.
“I’m not getting anything professionally and personally,” Kyle explained to Amanda. “The vibe that I’ve been picking up is he’s on the verge of quitting.”
Meanwhile, Lindsay warned Carl that Kyle would probably feel “let down” once they do finally speak.
