Ariana Madix Opens Up About Her Past "Emotionally Abusive" Relationship
The #PumpRules bartender says an ex-boyfriend was the one who almost kept her from being part of the show.
Season 4 of Vanderpump Rules opened with an uncensored special that revisited Season 1 of the show. Producers and SURvers who were involved in that first season shared stories and revealed some pretty interesting secrets, including the fact that Ariana Madix wanted nothing to do with the show. Now that she's been on the show for a few seasons, The Daily Dish podcast asked why she was reluctant to film and what changed her mind.
"This is what really frustrated me watching that whole uncensored thing, because I obviously wasn't on it, but you had people like Kristen [Doute] saying, 'Oh well that's why she didn't want to do the show, because of Tom [Sandoval].' No. I didn't want to do the show, because I was in a relationship with someone who was extremely emotionally and mentally abusive towards me."
Ariana said her boyfriend at the time despised Scheana Shay and the show.
"[He] told me Scheana was a piece of sh**, that I shouldn't be friends with her, she's fake. He literally hated every single thing about her and every single thing about reality television in general."
Ariana said her fears of him leaving her kept her from wanting to take part, despite the fact that she did film a performance as a backup dancer for Scheana.
The bartender describes that period of time as "weird" and "tough" and says she's just now getting comfortable with being on the show.
