Below Deck Med's Courtney Veale Explains Her "Creepy Uncle" Comments About Mathew Shea

The Below Deck Med stew opened up about the chef's behavior in Season 6 on WWHL.

By Laura Rosenfeld

Earlier this season of Below Deck Mediterranean, Courtney Veale memorably shared that Mathew Shea is "like my creepy uncle" and that he gave her "creepy uncle vibes." Now we know exactly what the third stew meant by all of that.

When Courtney appeared on Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen on July 26, she and fellow guest Malia White answered some "shady questions" during a game of "Truth or Drink!" One of those queries happened to concern Courtney's noteworthy description of the chef, asking her to "describe in more detail what makes Mat look like a 'creepy uncle.'"

"It wasn't so much how he looked; it was the things that he said every day and the things that he did. He was just, he was so cringe," Courtney explained in the above clip. "And he was so creepy in some of the things he said when you don't know him."

When Andy Cohen asked if Malia would like to add anything to Courtney's comments, the already giggling bosun said "no" with a laugh.

Mat previously shared his reaction to Courtney's characterization of him during an interview with The Daily Dish earlier this month. "Well, I didn't like it, of course," he said with a laugh. "No one likes to be called 'a creepy uncle.'"

He added, "I definitely prefer 'Daddy,'" referring to what Courtney called Mzi "Zee" Dempers on his birthday earlier this season.

Mat also seemed to take it all in stride during his appearance on WWHL on July 19, sharing how he felt when he first heard about Courtney's comments. "Oh, man," he said. "I was probably blushing just as bad as I am now."
