João announced the happy news on Instagram on Friday, March 6. "The most incredible feeling I have ever felt was when she said yes. I’ve never felt a happiness so true and I fall in love with her over and over again, every day," he gushed in the caption to the post. "Here is to the rest of our lives by each other’s side."

João also included "#engaged" and "#happyhearts" in the caption to the Instagram post.

It looks like João popped the question in his native Zimbabwe, one of the stops on his trip around Africa with Michelle at the beginning of this year. During their vacation, João and Michelle visited his family and friends, including his sister, Shae Talbert, as well as his brother, Karlos Franco, and dad, João Franco Sr., both of whom he said on Instagram he hadn't seen in years.

João and Michelle met in August 2018 after his relationship with Brooke Laughton had fizzled out, he told The Daily Dish during an interview in July 2019. João decided to get his teeth bleached while he was in New York City for the Below Deck Med Season 3 reunion, and Michelle was the dental hygienist who performed the procedure.

She messaged him a few months later when she was traveling to Fort Lauderdale, Florida, where João was based at the time. They met up in the Sunshine State and have been together ever since. João started going public with his relationship on his Instagram in fall 2018.

As of last summer, João and Michelle were in a long-distance relationship while she lived in New York City and he was in Florida. The next step for their relationship at the time was moving in together and figuring out what part of the world that would be in. The couple had planned to look at homes in Portugal during their vacation there last summer, João told The Daily Dish.

“It’s been the easiest and most rewarding relationship I’ve been in so far," João said. “I’ve never been with someone so secure, in a sense. And she’s very independent, which is fantastic.”
