Love is definitely in the air this season of Below Deck Mediterranean, but Max Hagley has somehow managed to (mostly) stay out of the drama. That's because the deckhand has his own relationship to worry about and enjoy, that with his girlfriend, Emily, who climbed aboard the Sirocco for some fun in the sun earlier this season.
But being away from his girlfriend while working on the Sirocco wasn't exactly a pleasure cruise for Max as she worked as a dancer in Dubai. "Yeah, I mean, obviously, being away from Emily is tough, because she doesn't know what I'm doing, I don't know what she's doing. We're on different time zones as well, so it's hard to talk. When she could talk, I might be up on deck working, so that would be my shift. And then when I'm down, she might be busy doing her thing," Max recently told The Daily Dish. "So it is very strenuous. I could do it with her, but I probably wouldn't be able to do it with anyone else."
Unfortunately, Max and Emily broke up for a brief period of time after the charter season ended. But these days, they're back together — and both in the same time zone, too. "We had a gap. We were sort of away from each other. And now it's sort of almost refreshened everything. So we're good," Max said. "We're both back in London at the moment, so there's no distance, which is nice."
Now Emily is enjoying watching Max's Below Deck Med experience, especially everything that she had no idea was even happening when she was aboard the yacht. "It's good for her, because obviously, there's so much she hasn't seen that goes on that I've probably even forgotten about or not mentioned to her," Max said. "And now she knows everyone, it's really good for her to see what's happening because she was on for such a short period of time that when she was onboard, she probably thought, 'This is brilliant. Everyone's getting along like a house on fire. They're lovely. They're the most amazing people in the world.' And then suddenly, she's watching episodes where they're screaming at each other, she's crying, and so it's good for her."
Even Max didn't know just how drama-filled this season of Below Deck Med was. "I watch things and I'm like, 'Wow, did that happen?' Or, 'This is crazy,'" he said.
