Below Deck Sailing Yacht's Colin MacRae Has a New Puppy After Losing Dog Marty
The chief engineer also shared an update on his relationship with girlfriend Martina.
The April 26 episode of Below Deck Sailing Yacht was an emotional one for Colin MacRae. While away on charter, the chief engineer learned that his dog back home, Marty, had passed away.
"I'm just shocked, like it just doesn't seem real," Colin said of learning the sad news during an interview in the episode. "It's f--king devastating."
Earlier in the episode, Colin opened up about how Marty had come into his life. "Two years ago, our friends rescued a little puppy. It was abandoned in a cave. They were like, 'Do you want to rescue this puppy?' I said, 'Sure,'" he shared. "So we rescued him, and he's been sailing with me around the Caribbean for the last two years. Just an amazing, amazing dog."
Colin previously paid tribute to Marty in a post on Instagram on August 9, 2020, which featured a collection of photos of the pup through the years, along with the yachtie's other dog, McFly. "One of my best friends has died. I am absolutely heart broken. We rescued Marty at the age of 2 months old, when he was found abandoned in a cave in St Martin, malnourished, literally on [death's] doorstep. He made a full recovery and sailed around the whole Caribbean with us, becoming the closest thing to a son I have ever had," Colin wrote in the post. "He was showered with love by the many crew who have been fortunate enough to meet him, and he was often the life of the party. He was always full of energy and the first to jump into the dinghy or paddle board, and loved every minute of his all too short of a life."
He went on to share how devastated he and his dog, McFly, were to lose a member of their family. "There is something absolutely incredible about the bond which forms between humans and dogs. I am walking around aimlessly as I feel a hole in my heart which will take a long time to recover, but can only imagine the emptiness that his brother McFly will feel once he actually realizes his big bro will never be cuddling him again," Colin wrote. "Rest In Peace Mart. You were such a good boy x."
Colin had some good news to share after filming this season of Below Deck Sailing Yacht. He revealed that he had rescued another pup, Lindo, in a post on Instagram on March 3. "Everyone meet Lindo! Some of you may remember I lost my dog Marty to a blood infection last year while away filming for [Below Deck Sailing Yacht], leaving my other dog McFly without a brother. Well, today we found a beautiful little pit bull in the town next to us, in Puerto Lindo, who needed a home so [he] will join the family and sail around the world with us," Colin shared, along with a photo introducing his new pooch to the world. "Lindo means cute in [Spanish], and he’s really living up to his name so far!!"
Though Lindo has been "an absolute handful" of a pet so far, Colin shared in an update on his new pooch on Instagram on March 20, the yachtie said that he "wouldn't have it any other way."
Colin had another major life update to announce on Instagram earlier this month. He and his girlfriend, Martina, who delivered the sad news about Marty on Below Deck Sailing Yacht, had decided to end their relationship. "So a couple of months ago, [Martina] and I decided to go our separate ways," he said in a post that featured a photo of the couple. "It was an extremely eventful year, with the boat breaking, getting struck by lightning, a pandemic, lost a dog, and me doing a reality TV show, and I will always have amazing memories of how she supported me and loved me throughout all of this."
Colin added that he and Martina "have chosen to be quite private about all the details," but he opened up more about the breakup "in quite a deep manner" in a video on his YouTube channel. "As I say in the episode 'Don’t be sad that it’s over, be happy that it happened' would be an accurate description of how grateful I am to have been with this amazing woman," Colin wrote on Instagram.
