Ben Affleck Totally Lied to Us All — That Tat Is Real and the Internet Has Feelings
Affleck once claimed that the infamous ink was "fake for a movie" — but recent sightings prove otherwise.
Ben Affleck's rising phoenix back tattoo is something of a legend ... as in, it's legendary for making people cringe. When Affleck's ex-wife Jennifer Garner caught wind of the enormous marking, she tactfully commented "bless his heart." Meanwhile, Affleck's other ex, Jennifer Lopez, didn't mince words: she called the design "awful" on Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen. Check out the clip above to get a glimpse at the controversial tattoo in question.
And even though the actor initially got the ink in late 2015 — and has since that claimed it was "fake for a movie" — the tat is making its rounds on the Internet once again. Just this month, the 45-year-old actor was spotted shirtless in Hawaii, and it seems that the phoenix isn't fake at all.
In fact, according to a People source, the very real tattoo took hours to complete. It also involved the rental of a huge tattoo machine, which Affleck kept at his house for days.
Despite all the effort that apparently went into the creation, the poor tattoo just can't catch a break. After the most recent phoenix spotting, the Internet went wild. Take a peek at some of the reactions:
