Brooklyn Tankard's Debut Single Will Be Your New Summer Jam
Prepare to have the #ThickerThanWater daughter's track in your head for days.
Queen Brooklyn Tankard is ready to reign supreme on the charts. The Thicker Than Water daughter just released her debut single "When I'm Gone" on Soundcloud, and we're already singing along.
This empowerment anthem is so fierce and catchy, you're not going to want it to get out of your head — which is a good thing, because it's probably going to stay there for a few days. Brooklyn teased the song to The Daily Dish in March, saying it has "a dance, disco, pop, fun feel. And it’s just a woman talking about, 'Look. Hey. I’ve been putting up with your mess and your games, what you gonna do about it when I’m gone? Deuces. I ain’t sticking around for this.'"
We've followed Brooklyn as she tries to jumpstart her music career on Thicker Than Water this season (clip above), even if her dreams haven't always been met with the most enthusiasm from her gospel jazz maestro dad Ben Tankard.
But it looks like Ben is now a proud papa. He gave a shout out to Brooklyn's new single on Instagram upon its release.
And Ben isn't the only fan of the song. Brooklyn expressed her gratitude to early positive reviews of her single on Instagram. "It feels so good to go back to the roots of what I've loved since a child, GOOD MUSIC! I always sang in girl groups, choirs, played instruments and even sang backup for a big name or two but this was the first song I've EVER fully recorded in my life and it's soooo dope!!!" she wrote on Instagram after the song was released last week. "I was so nervous recording my 1st time in the studio but big thanks to [producer] @blacelvis and [singer-songwriter] @neshmcqueen for pushing me!!!"
"When I'm Gone" is coming to iTunes and Google Play on June 5 and will be part of an upcoming visual album aptly titled I am Royalty. So what else can you expect from the visual album? "All I can tell you is that this music is the bomb dot com. It’s not what you may expect with my father being a pastor. It’s not gospel, but I do have lyrics with substance. That means something," she previously told The Daily Dish. "Music that’s going to make you feel and feel your emotion that you want to feel that day. Get you moving, whether you wanna dance, or whether you need some inspiration for that day. Real life music."
If "When I'm Gone" is only Brooklyn's first single, we can't wait to see the full visual album.
Brooklyn's music career isn't the only thing to come between her and her pop this season of Thicker Than Water. Hear them hash out their issues, below.
