Captain Sandy Yawn Says Girlfriend Leah Shafer "Has Been Shamed" Since They Went Public with Their Relationship
Not everyone has been so accepting of the Below Deck Mediterranean relationship.
Captain Sandy Yawn and girlfriend Leah Shafer have been shouting their love for each other from the rooftops since they confirmed they are a couple earlier this week during an interview with The Cheat Sheet. However, not everyone has been so accepting of this relationship.
The Below Deck Mediterranean boss recently shared on Twitter that Leah, who is a gospel singer based in Denver, Colorado, has encountered some backlash after going public with their relationship. "After the @cheatsheet article about my relationship [with] @leahshafer1 she has been shamed, she is no longer welcome in some churches," Captain Sandy tweeted.
Leah, who was previously married for 20 years and has a 13-year-old daughter, had been encountering some opposition to their relationship even before the news grabbed headlines as "some religious institutions have turned their back on her," according to The Cheat Sheet. “It’s looked against it, loving the same sex,” Leah told the site. “I think you can’t help who you fall in love with.”
She added, “God is love. He doesn’t care.”
Still, Captain Sandy and Leah have been proud to share their relationship with the world. "Love is love!" Captain Sandy exclaimed when she announced this major update in her love life on Twitter earlier this week.
Captain Sandy will be just one of many Bravo stars helping Andy Cohen celebrate WorldPride at the New York City Pride March on Sunday, June 30, and she hasn't been able to contain her excitement on Twitter, not that we blame her at all.
We'll hear more exciting updates from Captain Sandy and the rest of the Below Deck Med crew when Season 4 sets sail on Monday, June 3 at 9/8c. Check out a sneak peek of the premiere episode, below.
