The Friday Night Lights star is joining the Bravo family. Get the details on the A-lister's next big project.
Bravo's upcoming Dirty John anthology series, based on the true crime podcast of the same name, just cast a major player. Bravo confirmed to Deadline that Connie Britton will join the series as lead Debra Newell, a single mother and interior designer who falls for "Dirty John" aka John Meehan. She will also serve as an executive producer.
Earlier this year, Bravo greenlit a a two-season, straight-to-series order for the scripted show based on articles and the popular podcast Dirty John from Los Angeles Times reporter Christopher Goffard. The podcast launched in October 2017 and took a closer look at how Newell's romantic relationship with Meehan turned into a dark tale of deceit, manipulation, and survival for her whole family. Season 1 will focus on that story while Season 2 will be a different, self-contained story, with details to be announced at a later date.
A companion docuseries investigating the real "Dirty John," told through those whose lives he upended will air on Oxygen. “The story of Dirty John is uniquely fit for both the Bravo & Oxygen brands,” said Frances Berwick, President, Lifestyle Networks, NBCUniversal Cable Entertainment, in a statement. “For the Bravo audience, it’s a chillingly relatable story of love, manipulation and survival that dovetails nicely with our other original scripted series Girlfriends’ Guide to Divorce and Imposters. For Oxygen, it joins a roster of exclusive access, high-stakes premium content that the network is becoming known for among true crime enthusiasts.”
