Curtis Stone: My Kid Has Never Eaten a Hot Dog
The 'Top Chef Masters' host and father of two talks about exposing his kids to a healthy diet.
It's hard not to feel envious of the kids of celebrity chefs. After all, while most of us are struggling to microwave some popcorn, they probably get to experience delicious and exotic culinary treats from the moment they can eat solid foods. But as it turns out, their parents can also be ultra-strict when it comes to junk food.
Top Chef Masters host Curtis Stone recently revealed that he prioritizes healthy eating with his two sons Hudson, 3, and Emerson, 7 months. And that means that certain foods are just outright banned in the Stone household. "Someone said to me on a TV show in America, 'But how do you stop your kid from eating hot dogs?' I'm like, 'That's pretty easy, my kid has never eaten a hot dog because it's full of s***,'" he reveals. "I don't want him to have all the nitrates and crap that's in a hot dog."
Curtis is a firm believer that it is up to parents to set a good example when it comes to their kids' diets. "Your kid is going to embrace whatever you expose them to, right? That's just a fact of life," he says. "People tell you, 'No, no my kid likes this or my kid likes that.' My opinion is that's just not accurate."
Still, Curtis is aware that one day his sons will probably be exposed to fast food and he has made his peace with that. "Of course one day he will be invited to a party at a fast food restaurant and I'm not going to say no," he explains. "You can live a life of course, but you [as a parent] are in charge of his day to day."
