Though Cynthia told The Daily Dish that she had always thought about being in the bag space as she cultivates her accessories empire, the line really came to fruition after her business partner Kal Williams approached her to start the company. "You know, I have my whole Cynthia Bailey Eyewear line, and I want to live in the whole accessories space, so when he approached me about doing bags, I thought it was a great fit for another accessory to have under the Cynthia Bailey brand for the accessories empire that I'm building," she said. "I'm especially inspired by it because with my schedule, I do spend a lot of time traveling, so I love the idea of backpacks and overnighters and with the ability to expand into other travel leather goods soon."
Cynthia travels in style with her Bailey Bag from the CARGO by Cynthia Bailey collection.
For Kal, partnering up with Cynthia was a no-brainer. "The reason I chose Cynthia is because she's obviously very beautiful, very classy, but also she's an amazing person to work with. In terms of her creative, she has a great gauge in temperature for all things fashion and fashion-related," he told The Daily Dish. "So for those reasons I chose Cynthia, in addition to the fact that what she represents herself is timeless beauty."
And Cynthia's "timeless beauty" definitely comes across in the CARGO collection, which is available now for purchase through the company's official online store. The current collection includes overnight bags, backpacks, satchels, and wristlets in fine leather, suede, and mohair, with colors ranging from sand to indigo to orange.
These CARGO by Cynthia Bailey bags looked super chic on display at the company's launch event in Hollywood, California on May 18, 2016.
CARGO's ideal customer is someone that has a unique sense of style yet appreciates a product that will grow with them as they do. "Someone that wants something that everyone doesn't have. Someone who's not super trendy. Someone who wants something that's a little more timeless, a little more classic," Cynthia described CARGO's target audience. "And definitely a fashion crowd as well, someone who doesn't need labels screaming off all of their products, someone who just wants a bag or a backpack or a purse or a satchel or whatever we come up with that just kind of ages as beautifully as I have over the years."

Cynthia's RHOA castmates have also been early fans of the line. "I actually took one of the orange-colored backpacks to Jamaica, and as soon as I got on the plane, everyone was like, 'Oh my God, I love that backpack. Where'd you get that backpack?'" Cynthia said of the couples' trip last season of the show.
She also gave a bag to NeNe Leakes, who came out to support Cynthia during CARGO's launch event on May 18 in Hollywood, California, to give to her son Brentt Leakes. "He travels a lot with her, he homeschools, so she thought it would be a great thing for him," Cynthia said. "She supports what I do, and I wanted to make sure she definitely got that to him."
So will CARGO get the 'mercial treatment just like Cynthia Bailey Eyewear did last season of RHOA? "I hope so. I loved the 'mercial. I'm so glad the cast was so supportive of the 'mercial. It was amazing that Peter [Thomas] got us to Jamaica. That whole trip was, in my opinion, one of our best trips," Cynthia said. "We're all businesswomen at the end of the day, and I always do what I can to support them, so it felt great for them to support me. Yes, I am just as excited about CARGO as I still am about my eyewear line. I'm gonna do everything I can to promote it, to make sure that everybody's talking about CARGO just like everybody's talking about Cynthia Bailey Eyewear."
CARGO recently made it into its first retail store, Sovage at L.A.'s Beverly Center. It will also be making its way into stores in Atlanta and the rest of the country in the coming months, according to Cynthia and Kal. They're also planning on launching the line in Atlanta, New York, Miami, and other major cities in the U.S. in the future. "One of the things I learned with my eyewear line is that one launch in one city is not enough. I definitely need to hit all the major cities and have a presence there because I have fans all over the world at this point, and we haven't even taken it international yet," Cynthia said. "I think it's important for us to hit all the major cities and have a proper launch there and include everyone."
Cynthia will be back in L.A. to promote CARGO and Cynthia Bailey Eyewear at the FTB Fashion & Technology Bazaar on June 25 during BET Awards Weekend. However, she's already onto her next projects in the accessories world and beyond. Cynthia revealed that she has a CARGO Home and coffee lines in the works, and hopes to get into the jewelry, hat, and watch spaces in the future. "The great thing about the accessories lane is there's so many different accessories," she said. "I think I want to be the female Michael Kors with my brand. I think he has great products, and I think there's a price range for everybody. I think he's a good product and he's affordable."
So get ready for CARGO and everything else Cynthia has in the pipeline to go global. "My hopes are to take anything and everything Cynthia Bailey worldwide. I have a following worldwide," she said. "I'm not a local girl; I'm international. I've always been and always will be."
Cynthia has been styling since the day she was born, and these pics prove it.
