D'Andra Simmons Shares How She Feels About That Meeting With Her Stepmother Today
The Real Housewives of Dallas cast member opens up more about the off-camera conversation.
D'Andra Simmons has opened up about her desire to mend her relationship with her brother this season of The Real Housewives of Dallas. She previously shared that they hadn't been on speaking terms following the passing of their father, who is D'Andra's biological dad.
After dropping a letter off at her brother's house, D'Andra didn't hear back from him. However, she did start to communicate with her stepmother, who proposed that they get together to talk before bringing her brother into the conversation.
As D'Andra got ready to meet her stepmom in the April 20 episode of RHOD, she FaceTimed with her mother, Dee Simmons (clip above). Mama Dee gave her daughter some very Mama Dee advice in advance of the meeting, which D'Andra later said she appreciated on Twitter. "She’s blunt, but I love her for that!" D'Andra tweeted.
She also received a pep talk from her husband, Jeremy Lock, which was exactly what D'Andra needed before this important conversation with her stepmom. "I'm so grateful for Jeremy for being my moral support through this tough journey with my family - I don't know what I'd do without him!" D'Andra tweeted. "Plus, a little prayer up to Jesus doesn't hurt!"
D'Andra also said of Mama Dee and Jeremy's different points of view on the meeting, "I appreciate that they both are caring enough to share their opinions! Both different, but I appreciate them equally!"
Jeremy drove D'Andra to meet with her stepmom, who asked that their conversation not be filmed. When Jeremy picked D'Andra up two-and-a-half hours later, she filled him in on how it went in the car on the way home.
D'Andra said that she and her stepmom discussed a little bit of what happened in the past, which they didn't completely see eye to eye on. However, D'Andra said that she didn't want to argue about what may or may not have happened before.
D'Andra's stepmom also told her that her brother doesn't want to have a relationship with her. An emotional D'Andra shared during an interview in the episode, "I only know that I did everything I could and the best I could, and I have to know that that's got to be good enough for me right now."
She also told Jeremy in the car, "I don't know what the future looks like, but at least it's not what it was before. It'd be really a shame if after all this time and effort on all of our parts that I didn't try to put this back together."
Jeremy told D'Andra that he was "proud" of her. "I'm ready to just chill out, just take a big, deep breath again," she said.
D'Andra later reflected more on the meeting with her stepmom on Twitter. "I left the meeting with my stepmother knowing I did everything I could to repair and foster a healthier relationship with her [and] my family," D'Andra tweeted. "While hard, I'm happy I took the first step, and I hope for a brighter future between us!"
Tiffany Moon showed her support for D'Andra on Twitter as this episode of RHOD aired. "Beyond proud of @dandrasimmons having the courage to try and mend her relationships!" she tweeted. "I love you girl!"
D'Andra thanked her friend for her kind words, tweeting, "Your support means the world to me!"
