On the April 22 episode of The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills, Denise Richards underwent an intense emergency surgery for hernias. Following the episode, she received an outpouring of support from fans, and later took to Instagram to thank them for their kind words while opening up about the experience.

“I can’t thank you enough for your lovely and supportive messages, especially regarding my surgery,” Denise wrote in an April 23 Instagram post. “I felt very vulnerable having me filmed before and after, but felt it was important to show, given many of us can ignore symptoms.”

She also thanked her husband, Aaron Phypers, for taking such great care of her, and her doctor for “being so thorough and taking care of me and educating me that it’s not just a hernia.”

Denise then went on to explain that it was a learning experience. “It was a big lesson for me. Us women (and men), sometimes we feel the need to take care of everyone else, often brushing off our needs or symptoms to the side thinking they will go away and all will be ok. It was a real wake-up call for me, reminding me to listen to my body and it’s ok to take care of myself.”

The Real Housewives of Orange County cast member Tamra Judge commented on the post to share that she had a similar experience.

“You were smart and lucky Denise,” wrote Tamra. “I ignored my symptoms that were SOOOO painful and my stomach wall burst. Leaving me with an emergency surgery and five days in the hospital. So glad you are doing better.”
