Dennis McKinley Praises His Fiancée: "Activism Work Is in Porsha’s Blood"
The RHOA couple has been stepping up and speaking out in support of the Black Lives Matter movement.
When Porsha Williams went into activist mode and stepped out on the frontlines of the Black Lives Matter movement as an outspoken protester, The Real Housewives of Atlanta fans were reminded that it's in her DNA to speak out for social change. Her grandfather was Civil Rights leader Rev. Hosea Williams, who worked alongside Martin Luther King Jr.
Porsha had someone special by her side during these protests: her fiancé, Dennis McKinley.
"Activism work is in Porsha’s blood; she has a direct responsibility to lead. We talk about this daily; it’s important for her to continue to be about action. Action inspires more action. Too many celebrities and influencers are afraid to talk about what’s right or wrong because of how it affects their personal wallets, f--k that. You gotta stand up for people who watch your TV show in the ghettos (and suburbs) of the world and who grew up on the east side of Atlanta ([like] Decatur)," Dennis told The Daily Dish in an email interview about what it's been like to witness Porsha working on the frontlines.
In addition to protesting by her side, Dennis also worked to offer legal and bail aid for protesters who were arrested.
"It’s simple, we were out protesting and people were going to jail. We found out fast that in order to get free you needed cash; most judges weren’t even allowing bonds, so we went to work. We called all of the 'bailout funds' to help and nobody responded so we just used our own cash," he said. "These were college kids, people that were unemployed, etc etc, so throwing people in jail was a tactic to scare people so they wouldn’t come back out. We said, 'No, let’s get them out so they can continue to fight and protest,' and that’s what we did."
Porsha recently also shouted out Dennis for stepping into activist mode in recent weeks.
