Dorinda Medley opened up about her split from her longtime boyfriend, John Mahdessian on the May 14 episode of The Real Housewives of New York City. But what does her love life look like these days? Dorinda shared an update during an episode of The Daily Dish podcast, which you can listen to below.
Dorinda explained that she still has a very amicable relationship with John. “We’re still very good friends. I call him two, three times a week, here,” she said. She also noted that she doesn’t really consider their separation a “break up.”
“First of all, I’m 55. So, we’re not breaking up, we’re not in high school. Second of all, it was a seven and a half year relationship, so you don’t ‘break up.’ It’s not like, ‘I really don’t want to date you anymore.’ We both just realized, and I think women do, that things were changing. And I was sort of moving in one direction and John was moving into the other, “ said Dorinda.
She then pointed to a few aspects of their relationship, such as the fact that they didn’t live together, weren’t going to get married, and only saw each other about twice a week, noting that she was beginning to wonder if that’s what she truly wanted.
“I was like, ‘What am I doing? Maybe I do want something a little more’...I don’t know! But this is not feeling right anymore,” Dorinda explained.
But don’t count on watching Dorinda walk down the aisle on the next season of RHONY. Although she says, “you never say never,” she’s not exactly sold on the whole idea of marriage, and is currently just taking things day by day.
“My longing now in life is to just be happy. Be a little more selfish,” she said. “Just let things sort of happen as they should be, but really, let them happen.”
