Dorinda Medley On Her Daughter Moving Out

There comes a time when every baby bird has to leave the nest behind. And for Dorinda Medley, that time was this past December when her daughter, Hannah Lynch, moved out of her mom's Big Apple apartment and into her own pad. The Real Housewives of New York City mom is actually faring way better with the separation than she could have ever anticipated.

"I thought it would be harder than it was. I think because she didn't move out of the city and I think the fact that she's so happy and she's enjoying it so much," Dorinda told The Daily Dish. "The Upper East Side is not a place for a young girl. It's a place for children, mothers, divorcees. So now she has her own little place. She's got her friends. She can have dinner parties."

Dorinda says there's also a major benefit to living solo. "Here's another thing: you can't help yourself as a mother. I was saying when she was in college, I never thought about where she was on Saturday night or on a Tuesday night, but when you're home you can't help but wondering. Like, 'Where are you? When are you coming home?' It's the worst thing you can do to a kid," she said. "So now our relationship has normalized again because I don't know too much. You know what I mean? There comes a point in a mother-daughter relationship where you shouldn't know too much."

And don't forget to catch Hannah's mom when RHONY premieres Wednesday, April 5 at 9/8c. Check out a preview, below.
