In Season 2 of Married to Medicine Los Angeles, we’ve seen Dr. Kendra Segura and her husband, Dr. Hobart Leung, navigate life as new parents. On the June 27 episode of The Daily Dish podcast, which you can listen to below, Dr. Kendra explained what it’s been like to look back at her earliest days of motherhood, and how her life has changed since welcoming baby Hart a year ago.

One of the most trying challenging experiences Dr. Kendra went through this season was returning to work after having Hart. Her decision to work full time again created a lot of tension between her and Hobart, which Dr. Kendra explained left her feeling worried about the state of their relationship.

“I have never seen this side of Hobart before. And you know, I was going through a lot,” she said. “Like, we’ve never had a child before. I have to think about him, too. As far as you know, he was probably sleep deprived, too. I have all the physical changes, but looking back and seeing how intense he was looking at me. And I’m shocked because Hobart has been that guy that supports me whatever I do.”

“He wasn’t really feeling or understanding why I wanted to go back to work. Me and him were totally disconnected,” she continued. “So that’s why I think I was so shocked, because he just attacked me. And I really didn’t see it coming ‘cause that’s not his usual behavior.”

Kendra noted that she began to think the worst when she realized how differently they were both behaving.

“I’m that girl that thinks the worst,” she explained. “Oh my god, we’re on the brink of a divorce.”

Although Kendra and Hobart were eventually able to work through their feelings, she said there will always be judgement from other people when it comes to raising a new baby.

“People have judgement, even your own husband,” she said. “And so this is, you know, have to get used to. Or I had to get used to especially during that time.”

On June 25, Hart turned one year old: a milestone that is very bittersweet for Kendra.

“I’m happy of course, but I’m just so heartbroken. It goes so fast, and everybody tells you, but it really goes fast. Like, it’s too fast you know,” she said.

Hart’s first birthday was celebrated with some social distancing, of course. Kendra posted a photo of Hobart carrying Hart on his shoulders, writing, “I’m not ready for Hart to turn one but apparently he is. Thank you everyone for Hart’s birthday wishes. The social distancing partying continues.”

It looks like Hart also enjoyed some delicious birthday cake, as seen in a photo shared to his very own Instagram account

She also shared a video message she recorded for Hart when she was still pregnant, writing, “A message to my son over a year ago to now. Wow IG tribe. I’m in awe of what can happen in one year.”
