Emily Simpson Defends Shane as the "Most Benign Husband You Would Ever Meet"
"Everybody likes him," The Real Housewives of Orange County newcomer shared.
Emily Simpson's husband, Shane Simpson, has made quite the first impression in his wife's inaugural season of The Real Housewives of Orange County. That's mostly due to the fact that hasn't always gotten along with the other OC Housewives either, whether it was asking Gina Kirschenheiter to leave his home after the ladies' poker night or clashing with Kelly Dodd at Eddie Judge's birthday party (clip above).
But the controversy surrounding Shane has actually been surprising to Emily. "My husband is like the most benign husband you would ever meet. I’ve been married to him for 10 years. He doesn’t really like to go out, he’s more of a homebody. I have tons of girlfriends, he’s never gotten into an argument with any of them — ever. Everybody likes him, he chit-chats a little bit and goes on his way," Emily told Decider during a recent interview. "So Shane being the center of the Housewives show is the most bizarre thing to me. Never in a million years would someone have told me that and would I have believed it. He gets recognized more than I do."
And when Shane gets recognized out and about, fans like him, too, according to Emily. "It’s so weird. I thought going into it Shane was going to be in the background, he’d just hang out with the kids, and that would be the extent of it," Emily shared. "He’s given Andy [Cohen] and Watch What Happens Live so much material it’s insane."
Emily also teased that she and Kelly revisited her confrontation with Shane at this season's reunion. Out of all of the names Kelly called Shane during that fateful night ("twerp," "dork," "loser"), there's one that still stings for Emily. "I think it’s the 'little bitch' over and over because it’s like yeah, he’s short, I get it, he’s 5’7″, he’s not very tall, I’m taller than him," she said. "It’s such a double standard because when it comes to women, if you make fun of women and their physical attributes, that’s a horrible thing to do. So why is it okay to bash a man? It shouldn’t be, it should be the same, you shouldn’t make fun of him. He can’t help that he’s 5’7;″ his mom is 4’10,” like how tall did we think Shane was going to be."
The RHOC newcomer also took a moment to clear the air on her husband when she appeared on WWHL on Monday, November 12. "A lot of people have a misconception about Shane. You only see a very brief segment about him," she said (clip below). "I've been married to him for 10 years. He's the best damn father you will ever meet. We have five kids. He never misses a ballet performance, he takes them to school in the morning, he makes lunches, he changes diapers. He is the best dad, and he is a family man. He is committed to me and our family, so give him a break, guys!"
