Fredrik Eklund Makes an "Honest" Confession About His Family's Move to Miami
The MDLNY and MDLLA alum admitted the move has been "overwhelming" but full of "beautiful emotions."
Fredrik Eklund is getting real about his family’s big transition.
Back in July, the Million Dollar Listing New York and Million Dollar Listing Los Angeles alum announced he was moving from the LA area to Miami along with his husband, Derek Kaplan, and their kids Milla and Freddy Jr. Fredrik explained there were two big reasons for the relocation: His real estate business was rapidly expanding in South Florida and his children had been accepted to “the best schools” in the city.
“We’re so [excited] for this new chapter,” he wrote in a July 4 Instagram post. “I do need to be closer to New York where the business is bigger than ever.”
Fredrik Eklund reflects on his family's "overwhelming" move
On Saturday, August 26, Fredrik returned to Instagram to share a lengthy — and very honest — update on his family’s Miami move and how he navigated the first week without Derek.
“To be honest with you our very first week in Miami has been overwhelming,” he began the post, which included photos of his kids enjoying their new home. “Moving across the country is a lot. Derek has been back in LA overseeing the furniture move to our house in Connecticut, and I foolishly thought I could do the first week here and the kids new school alone without a nanny.”
Fredrik Eklund's first week in Miami stirred "beautiful emotions"
Although the first week wasn’t easy, Fredrik insisted it offered plenty of good moments, like his reunion with the family dog, Cash, and some beautiful beach days with his children.
“In all the big moving- and transition stuff there’s been a lot of beautiful emotions too," he continued, "taking the kids and sending them off to their first day of school in their little uniforms (I didn’t cry!), endless sunrises and sunsets over the beach, Pura Vida’s açaí-bowls in the tropical heat, the animals at Jungle Island...”
Fredrik Eklund shares an update on his business
Fredrik went on to say that his agency’s Miami branch has been doing spectacularly, as the region’s real estate market is “booming” like nowhere else. The Swedish native said his team had secured “tons of big listing appointments” in the past week and had several beach developments “in the works.”
“Miami in general like us… all in all such an exciting new chapter,” he wrote. “What do they say again… the days are long but the years are short or something? Well this week happened in a split of a second, let’s hope I can take a breath or two next week.”
