Fredrik Eklund Reveals How Husband Derek Kaplan Became a Father
The #MDLNY broker opens up about his hubby's son Kai.
Fredrik Eklund lives his life out loud on Million Dollar Listing New York, but believe it or not, there are still some things that fans might not know about the broker. One little-known fact is that Fredrik's husband Derek Kaplan has a son named Kai.
The MDLNY agent has already introduced Derek's son to the world on Instagram as the family enjoyed a gorgeous Grecian vacation and a fun, toy-filled tour of New York City last year. However, Fredrik will be opening up about Kai like never before during Thursday night's episode of MDLNY airing at 9/8c.
As you can see in the sneak peek of the all-new episode, Fredrik and Derek will be jetting off to London, where they will spend some time with Kai, who lives there full-time. Fredrik explains that Derek donated his sperm to a lesbian couple he met in London about seven years ago. They got pregnant on their first try and had Kai. So Kai has been a part of Fredrik's life ever since he met Derek.
Since Fredrik and Derek don't live in London, they unfortunately don't get to see Kai all the time. And it looks like Fredrik will have a tough time pulling himself away from his work during this jaunt to the British city. But there's an explanation for that. "Part of why I'm resistant is when we went through our second miscarriage just recently, I made a promise to myself to not think or be exposed to any kind of kids, babies," he says of his and Derek's own struggle to conceive via surrogate in the clip. "It's just too damn difficult. I just want to focus on work."
But we can only imagine that once Fredrik is reunited with the adorable Kai, he'll change his tune.
