The family man's intimate 25-seat outpost named Maude (after his grandmother) boasts a beautiful, ever-changing menu that focuses on making seasonal ingredients shine. Even better, the dishes look like they're served on china that was likely inspired by the namesake of the restaurant (who doesn't love vintage Victorian-style china?).
The cozy restaurant will surely be a nice getaway from the typical Lalaland eatery, and one that is especially inspiring for the Aussie Top Chef Masters host. "Maude is a culmination of all my life and career experiences," he says. "I love restaurants and thrive in them, and from as early as I can remember it's always been my dream to open my own. To be able to do so in Los Angeles where I'm raising my family makes this all the more special."
Stone is no stranger to adventurous cuisine, but he's taking a more selective approach to the menu at Maude. The winning ingredient for the first tastings? Citrus. Each item features a citrus element that is certain to pack some punch. (Even the picture of the citrus salad will make your mouth water!)
Even better, the dishes give Stone and his crew the opportunity to showcase California's best local produce. This month, patrons can fill up on sweet and savory Spiny Lobster Crudo with brioche, turnip, blood orange and radish; or if you're not the seafood type you can try the cleverly named Duck Duck Goose dish, complete with duck egg, smoked goose fat, and swiss chard. There's Lime Sorbet to cleanse your palate between tastings, and if you have a sweet tooth you can finish off by indulging on Lemon Curd with dulcey cremeux, yusu sorbet, and hempseed. Yum!
