Heather Thomson Teaches Son To Live with No Barriers
The #RHONY star also opens up about her upcoming mountain climb for charity.
Ain't no mountain high enough! And come July Heather Thomson will try and find that out for herself. The Real Housewives of New York star will take part in in a mountain-climbing expedition that will help raise funds for the No Barriers Charity.
Heather will scale four 14,000-foot peaks in one day to bring some awareness to No Barriers, which seeks to empower teens as well as people with disabilities and wounded veterans.
“I’m going to be climbing this mountain, and I’m going to be doing it with people who have prosthetics, who have no vision, who have no hearing, who have been wounded at war… people who have lost something…and together we’ll gain it all back on that mountain,” she tells Well and Good.
Her teaming up with the the charity is in some ways an extension of her efforts to bring attention to the liver disease her son, Jax, suffers from, which she notes is also a reason why she joined #RHONY.
“No Barriers stands for just that—you are capable of anything you want to do, no matter what your challenges are,” she says. “He has barriers, if you will, but I’m teaching him the No Barriers lifestyle.”
In addition to the trek, which she has been training for, Heather is looking out for ways to expand her own brand. The Yummie clothing designer is beginning to explore the word of wellness. She's even taking classes at the Institute for Integrative Nutrition’s health coach certification program. “My brand is encouraging,” she explains. “Yummie’s about confidence and making our lives easier as women, clothes that are versatile and work with us in our busy lives, and that make us look and feel our best.”
