Jacqueline Laurita Celebrates Autism Awareness Month

The 'RHONJ' star honors her son and encourages those to support the cause.

By Jordan Upmalis

Today is the first day of April, which means warmer weather may be in the works. Wishful thinking for Real Housewives of New Jersey star Jacqueline Laurita, who shared a snowy vid out of New Jersey on her Instagram yesterday. But for Jacqueline, April is way more important than some extra rays of sunshine.

April marks the start of Autism Awareness Month, a cause that is very near and dear to the Housewife's heart. Her smallest son, Nicholas, has been struggling with the disorder from a young age, which is why she's become such a crusader for the cause.

Over the weekend she took part in a Fight 4 Autism event. The North Jersey non-profit organization threw a Blue Hair Fundraiser, where supporters could come get a blue hair extension or some blue hair spray to support Autism Awareness Month. And those in attendance were thrilled for her appearance!

Jacqueline also the time to post to her own website following the event the give some words of encouragement and advice for those who potentially will have to go through their own journey with Autism. "Early detection and intervention are key to recovery," she explains. "So be observant and don't waste valuable time!"

Also remember that this is a family matter, and to keep everyone involved. "Have a family meeting to determine what everyone's role and responsibilities will be in the recovery of your child," she says. "That helps to avoid arguments and blame shifting."

Most importantly though, remember to stay positive. "Don't get discouraged!" she encourages. "Persevere!"
