James Kennedy Reveals the Inspiration Behind His "Lit" New Single
"This is the most exciting thing I have ever released," the #PumpRules DJ said of his new track, out now.
Turn the volume all the way up because James Kennedy has a new song ready for you to jam out to at your next party. The Vanderpump Rules DJ premiered his new track "Topman" on Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen on January 30. Hours before he took the stage, he shared his inspiration for the song to The Daily Dish.
"This is the most exciting thing I have ever released. What really inspired me to write 'Topman' was this track called 'Faithless' by Insomnia. Those chords, I think I lowered the key or something, but it's a little slower, too. I basically put this trap beat over it and just 'Topman' came to me," he shared. "It's just very catchy, British-style [track]. That's kind of what I want to bring to America is this British-style rap that doesn't really blow up here. The Tinie Tempah, Dizzee Rascal, Skepta — all these amazing artists that are starting to get more coverage in the U.S. I think there's room for 'Topman.' I'm excited. It's lit."
Now that it's made it's big TV debut, James is pretty sure you're "gonna want it" for yourself. Lucky for you, it's out now on iTunes.
