James McAvoy Ate 6,000 Calories a Day and Here's What He Looks Like Now (UPDATED)
The Scottish actor is hardly recognizable.
UPDATE (Dec. 11, 2017, 12:50 P.M.) Actor James McAvoy has stated that he did not eat "6000 calories a day to get bigger and leaner." In an Instagram post, he went to clarify that the quote was taken from an interview he did for the movie Split. He wrote: "The interview was done at the beginning of the year and me saying 'I ate 6000 calories a day' is inaccurate, was meant as a joke and is being widely used out of context." McAvoy went on to say he gained more muscle weight and got leaner by counting macros, not calories.
The original story continues below.
Unless our eyes are playing tricks on us, James McAvoy no longer even remotely resembles ... well, James McAvoy. To be clear, the Atomic Blonde actor is still a stud. But his previously lean frame has been replaced by a much more muscled physique that's partially the result of a 6,000-calories-a-day diet. That sounds kind of like our past few holiday-cookie-packed days, to be honest.
The actor's new look — and calorie-laden routine — is no accident. The X-Men star geared up to play a man with multiple personalities in the M. Night Shyamalan film Split. Apparently, none of the 24 personalities could be misconstrued as a wimp.
To bulk up for the role, McAvoy started with a Google search of "good way to put on muscle quick." Then, he said, he "just went into a gym and did it myself: a power-lifting routine called 5x5. You do five different exercises four or five times a week, and they’re huge, big exercises."
Oh, yeah, and then there was the eight-egg breakfast, three daily chicken breasts, steak snack, and two-salmon-steak dinner. It sounds like bulking up is serious business, but the results speak for themselves.
Recent photos of the actor, seen out and about in Philadelphia, reveal a totally toned — and dare we say beefcake-y — new look.

Can we talk about those arms? It seems that some on the Internet are doing just that ...
We could get used to this new version of McAvoy.
