Andy Cohen Is Already Breaking Up Some Reunion-Level Drama Among the Salt Lake City Housewives

Jen Shah and Mary Cosby still don't see eye-to-eye on those hospital smell comments on RHOSLC.

The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City may have made its series premiere on November 11, but some major drama had already been brewing among these Utah 'Wives even before this episode.

How to Watch

While out with Whitney Rose, Mary Cosby explained that she and Jen Shah used to be good friends. However, a rift formed between them after Mary mentioned "it smelled like hospital" while she was out one night with Jen and some other friends (clip above). "I have a very sensitive smell for hospitals, and it takes me to a very dark place," Mary explained to Whitney. "I could smell it anywhere."

We come to find out that prior to coming to the restaurant, Jen had been with her aunt, whom she says "is like my mother to me," all week at the hospital during which time Jen finds out that her loved one has to have both of her legs amputated. "Mary knew what I was dealing with," Jen said in an interview during the episode. "For her to say those comments to me, you're just flat out being mean."

Later in the episode, Mary and Jen talked about their issues at Meredith Marks' birthday party. Jen told Mary that she told her about her aunt, and Mary shared that hospitals remind her of her experience undergoing 12 surgeries to remove her odor glands. However, the ladies disagreed over who Mary had actually told that "it smelled like hospital" that night at the restaurant.

When the RHOSLC cast appeared on Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen on November 11, Mary clarified her comments in the episode about the hospital smell making her feel sick. "I wasn't saying I was going to throw up, but that smell will make me get a sick feeling," Mary explained. "First of all, I didn't say that to Jen, and Jen knows that. I actually said that to Meredith. I never told Jen's friend or Jen that she smelled like hospital."

Meredith and Lisa Barlow both confirmed that they heard Mary make the comment, but they didn't know what it was regarding. However, Jen said that Mary admitted to saying it was about her in the RHOSLC series premiere. "Mary, did you watch Episode 1, because you already admitted that you said that," Jen said on WWHL.

The two then continued to disagree on the matter on WWHL with Mary ultimately telling Jen, "Girl, bye," and Jen asking host Andy Cohen, "Can we mute her?"

Jen seems to be referencing when Andy memorably pulled out the mute button during The Real Housewives of Atlanta Season 12 virtual reunion in May. Even though Jen and Mary appeared to be getting into some reunion-level drama on WWHL, Andy said that he'll be reserving that mute button for a later date. "No, not yet. Sweetie, it's only Episode 1," Andy told Jen on WWHL. "The mute button doesn't come out for about 12 weeks."
