Heather Altman Says Postponing Wedding to Josh "Only Made Us Stronger"
The new Mrs. Altman reveals all about the #MDLLA wedding — and whether kids are next! — to The Daily Dish.
It's been two months since Josh Altman and Heather Altman said "I do" in an intimate ceremony in Aspen, Colorado. As they embark on this new chapter as Mr. and Mrs., Heather shared with The Daily Dish that life couldn't be better for the newlyweds.
"Married life is absolutely amazing. It's only gotten better and actually funny enough a lot of peole are telling Josh he's relaxed now and he's like, 'No, I lost my edge!' He's really taken on this new role of being a husband, this new job title," Heather told us exclusively. "He's never been a handyman or anything like that and he's been at home like picking up a hammer and he went and bought an electric drill and he's been trying to do housework. And he makes dinner; he makes me breakfast in the morning. It's been amazing."
But the road to wedded bliss wasn't paved in gold. The Million Dollar Listing Los Angeles couple postponed their original wedding back in October 2014, before getting married this past April. And, Heather says the delay made all the difference in the world. "I think if we would have gotten married the first time, when we had our original wedding date, I honestly can say — and he agrees with me — that maybe we might not still be together or it would have just been a really, really difficult time for the first however long," she said. "I think us waiting and really taking our time and figuring out each other and what we want together and separately, and going through some of those issues that we had and talking them out before we got married, made us both assured that we wanted this and that were lucky to have each other. It's only made us stronger."
Which brings us to the wedding. "I did not want the weekend to end," Heather said of the nuptials. "It was just absolutely incredible. I didn't think that I could enjoy myself as I did and that it could be as perfect as it was. Probably my favorite moment was, I think, it was being under the chuppah in front of our friends and family and with Josh. I really was in the moment and taking it all in ... and saying our vows to each other, it was such an emotional, fun time and having it all come together at that moment was just something I'll never be able to relive again."
And, of course, Heather spilled all the tea on her stunning gown, designed by the Australian-based brand Nektaria, which she discovered on Instagram. "Her stuff was just so unique and different," she said. "She created a custom gown for me that was just unreal the pictures didn't do it justice. [It had] 6,500 glass and pearl beads hand stitched on the dress [with] French and Italian lace. It was just really, really incredible. I wanted it to glisten like the snow in the sun."
Next up for the Altmans is finding time to go on their honeymoon. So far heading to South Africa, or traveling to the Amalfi Coast and Saint-Tropez, are the two trips topping their list of potential getaways. "We would love to go on a honeymoon," she said. "Literally we got back from Aspen and a day later we closed on our new house, moved into a new house, so I was busy for four to six weeks dealing with our move and contractors. And then Josh has been on and off with speaking engagements all around the U.S. and now he's leaving for Australia to do some speaking engagements out there. So hopefully end of July, early August we can go on our honeymoon. We're trying to figure out which one we can plan last minute cause we do everything last minute."
Kids are also in the plans for the pair... at some point. "If and when it happens, it does. We would love to start trying within the next year," Heather teased. "You know, Josh has been begging to have children since the day he proposed, so I've been the one that's made him wait 'cause I just wasn't ready at the time. I was so focused on my career that I didn't want to take away fron that. So now that we're married and work is going extremely well, and I've kind of hit some of the milestones that I wanted to hit, I think I'm kind of ready to settle down and start nesting and do all of that fun stuff."
