The Real Housewives of Dallas' famous Yorkshire terrier died on September 8 at the age of 15 1/2, Kameron confirmed to PEOPLE. “He was my rock,” she shared. “Everything reminds me of him. I walk around the house, I have his bowls out. His closet, I have so many clothes for him. I turn on my iPhone, he’s there. It’s everywhere I turn and I just miss him so much.”

Kameron also shared that she is "heartbroken" over the passing of her four-legged companion on Instagram on Friday, September 27.

"Rest In Peace to the sweetest, most loving dog ever," she wrote in a post that featured a lovely photo of her and Louis. "Lou, you were loved more than you know, the world loved you just as much as your family did. I miss you so much. Life will never be the same without you, our 15 years together were the best ever, but of course not enough. I will always love you with my whole heart. I know you are resting in your dream pink paradise. Thank you for teaching me to be a mommy, for creating SparkleDog, and for everything in-between."

Louis has been in Kameron's life for the past 15 years. She adopted him when she was just 21 years old while still in college, her first pet she adopted as an adult.

Kameron told PEOPLE that Louis was there for all of the major moments in her life, from giving her husband Court Westcott two paws up when they were still dating to playing an integral role in his proposal. “Louis was always there for those moments. He was there at our wedding, in a little tux. Holidays, birthdays… When I was pregnant, he would sit there and look at my tummy. I’d say, ‘Our baby is coming’ as he sat with me on the rocking chair in the baby’s nursery — which he thought was for him. When I came home from the hospital after giving birth to my kids (Hilton, 8, and Cruise, 6), Louis was there waiting," Kameron recalled. "He’s been with [me] through it all. I can’t imagine life without him.”

Kameron and Court hired a therapist to help their children cope with this loss. “His ashes came home on Friday in a mahogany box, and the kids have been carrying his ashes around," she said. "They’ve been asking him to go to their sport games with us, to bring him in the car. He slept in the bed with us. They’re treating the ashes as if it’s him. It’s really sweet.”

Of course, Louis could often be seen with Kameron on RHOD, especially when she was hard at work on her SparkleDog food line, for which he was the inspiration and mascot. Kameron was inspired to create her own dog food in an effort to help combat Louis' sensitive eating habits. She said he ate SparkleDog for a full year before she went wide with the product, and he loved the newest recipe, which is launching soon.

“We’ve been waiting for the next shipment to come on, but then this happened,” Kameron told PEOPLE. “The timing is very weird. It’s an even better recipe than before. He tasted it, he loved it, but the fact that it’s going to come out and he is not here? It’s horrible.”

Louis' passing is a good reminder to always show those who are most special to you how much you love them. “I give him a kiss every single time I left town. But I was flying to New York right before his death, and this was the only time I didn’t give him a kiss — the only time," she said. "And now he’s gone. That’s what was so hard.”

Kameron added, “He was the best and I’m always going to love him.”
