RHOP Producers on What's Really at the Root of Karen Huger's Drama with the Other Housewives
There's something The Real Housewives of Potomac cast may not be getting about the grande dame.
Season 5 of The Real Housewives of Potomac was one of the most intense for longtime cast member Karen Huger, from opening up about her background like never before to letting viewers into the most intimate parts of her marriage to husband Ray Huger. Along those lines, Season 5 has also been one of the most dramatic for Karen as her friendship and loyalty came into question.
That all came to a head in the RHOP Season 5 finale when the ladies confronted Karen about the invites to her Wig Shift Party. But according to RHOP executive producer Kemar Bassaragh, Karen could have avoided this situation altogether.
"If she had just explained her position earlier on, it would not have caused that big pile-on at Robyn [Dixon]'s engagement party," Bassaragh explained in The Real Housewives of Potomac After Show, above. "I feel like that's something Karen has to deal with outside, like always telling everyone up front how she feels."
Josh Brown, Vice President, Current Production at Bravo, agreed with Bassaragh, also sharing in the RHOP After Show that much of Karen's conflict with the other Potomac Housewives might boil down to communication issues.
"Now that you're saying this, I feel like it's also that some of the other women maybe need to be better at being fluent in Karen Huger, because I think Karen, when she says things, she gives off certain signals in the way that she's saying it or in the words that she chooses where you have to read between the lines," Brown said. "Even when we're having conversations off-camera or if I've heard her speaking with Kemar or one of the other producers during parts of the year when they're not filming, about just other random things, if you read between the lines on Karen, she is actually saying a lot; she just doesn't overtly say it, and I think sometimes the women maybe need to pick up on that and read the tea leaves a little better."
When it comes to these RHOP producers' proficiency in being "fluent in Karen Huger" themselves, Bassaragh admitted, "I'm still working on it," while Brown said that he feels like they're "understanding better" as time goes on. "She's an interesting, complicated, deep person," Brown said of Karen.
She certainly is!
