The First Thing Kate Chastain Did After Below Deck Season 6 Was Break Up with Her Boyfriend
The chief stew had been seeing a special someone before and during the charter season.
Kate Chastain worked hard and sometimes even played hard, too, during her time in Tahiti this season of Below Deck. But the chief stew wasn't exactly looking for love while aboard the M/Y Seanna, as was the case with many of her crewmates.
You see, Kate had actually started seeing someone back home in Florida before she sailed off for Season 6 of Below Deck, and they maintained their relationship long distance while she was off running things in the interior of M/Y Seanna.
But while she was away on charter, Kate realized that she didn't want to continue this relationship when she got back on land. "You know, everybody’s great when you first start dating them, and then you like get to know them and then you’re like, 'Ugh, what a weird one,'" Kate told The Daily Dish at the start of this season of Below Deck.
What was the dealbreaker, you ask? A few too many gifts featuring her beloved pup, Halo. "He had a portrait done of my dog, which was really sweet for my birthday. And then he liked how happy I was with that, so he had a second portrait done of my dog, which I was like, the first portrait was thoughtful, the second portrait was too much," Kate recalled. "I remember exactly where I was. I was in the stew pantry with Josiah [Carter], and I was like, 'Ooh, I got a text from the guy I’m seeing.' And it was a photo of my mom holding up the T-shirt with my dog screen-printed."
So Kate's first order of business when she returned home to Florida was to break things off with the guy. "As soon as I got back to Florida, he picked me up from the airport. I’d been gone for six weeks, working. He didn’t park, he’s just doing loops," she said. "That’s weird, you know, like you have six weeks to plan my great homecoming, he can’t even park the car, see?"
After Kate ended this relationship, she got back on the dating apps, but she hasn't exactly found Mr. Right just yet. "I go on Bumble when I get bored just to see what’s out there, but it’s more like Pokémon Go," she said. "'Ooh, I caught one, he’s evolving.' But then he’s like, 'You want to meet for drinks?' I’m like, 'No, I don’t have time for that, I don’t want to meet you.' But I have friends [and] we are rekindling."
