Captain Lee Rosbach Explains Why He Didn't Come Down on Kate Chastain in the Crew Mess
The Below Deck boss walked off as things intensified after the crew's day out in Thailand.
Captain Lee Rosbach got a rare front-row seat to the aftermath of the crew's day off during the December 9 episode of Below Deck.
Kate Chastain returned from the crew's day out at the beach resort upset after her heated exchange with Brian de Saint Pern, so much so that the chief stew started tossing uniforms around the crew mess, right in front of Captain Lee, no less. But surprisingly, Captain Lee didn't say a word as all of the drama went down. Instead, he decided to retire to his captain's quarters for the night.
Captain Lee explained why he chose not to discipline the crew in that moment during an interview in the episode. "Jesus Christ. They get a day off, and you come back bats--t f--king nuts," he said. "They're not playing well in the sandbox with each other, but I don't see any reason I should waste my time because anybody with half a goddamn brain knows that you just can't reason with drunks. But come tomorrow, we're gonna have a come to Jesus meeting."
The Below Deck boss shared a similar sentiment on Twitter as the episode aired. "No, I walked off because everyone was drunk, and as I have stated on numerous occasions that you cannot reason with people that are drunk," he said to a fan who thought he walked away because he didn't want to say that Kate was in the wrong in this situation. "So I guess you would have stayed there and hashed it out. Smooth move said no one ever. Accomplishes nothing but more bad feelings."
Captain Lee showed his support for Kate amid her conflicts with Kevin Dobson, Ashton Pienaar, and Brian this season of Below Deck. "I'm only there because she has earned it, [that's] the way I roll," he tweeted. "You get respect and backing the old fashioned way, you earn it."
He also commented on Kate and Brian's argument over the use of the word "yachtie." "I guess it could go both ways, but she did try to explain why she meant it as a compliment not in anyway in a derogatory way," Captain Lee tweeted. "He should accept that as well I feel. Works both ways."
Captain Lee added in another tweet, "There is no way I feel that Kate would show Brian disrespect, she really likes him and I hope that continues."
