Kathy Griffin Talks 'Awkward' Psy Moment on NYE
Kathy and Anderson Cooper talk disapproving moms and the random Psy cameo.
So, that whole Psy moment during Kathy Griffin and Anderson Cooper's New Year's Eve broadcast ... what the heck was that all about? Not even Kathy or Anderson can answer that one for you.
It seems that the South Korean pop star's walk-on was entirely unannounced and a surprise to K&A, who didn't have to fake being befuddled when the "Gangnam Style" singer and MC Hammer (yes, MC Hammer) arrived on their podium in the center of Times Square. We'll let Anderson recount it for you (from his show last night): "The weirdest moment for me, and there were a couple ... was Psy, the South Korean singer. He was on I guess Ryan Seacrest's program ... and then he wanders on with MC Hammer, who you and I don't recognize at all ... I don't think he knew where he was. I don't think he knew who we were ... Meanwhile, Kathy had been badmouthing Psy during his performance ... and then you say I'm the one who's badmouthing him."
Yep, Kathy threw Anderson under the bus, and it made for gloriously awkward television. Oh, and much like how Andy Cohen's mom chimes in to give her reviews, Kathy's mom Maggie is also a critic, and was none too impressed by her daughter's NYE antics.
"It was a thumbs down from Maggie," Kathy told Anderson. "My 92-year-old alcoholic mother... she didn't care for my performance. She thought I was too vulgar and disgusting."
Well, if Kathy's vulgar-disgusting style is your cup of tea, she'll be back with her talk show starting January 10!
