Kelly Ripa and Michael Strahan Just Won a Daytime Emmy... Together
The LIVE co-hosts were jointly honored ahead of Strahan's impending exit.
Well, this is awkward. On Sunday, May 1, Kelly Ripa and Michael Strahan jointly won the Daytime Emmy Award for Outstanding Entertainment Talk Show Host for LIVE with Kelly and Michael. The win comes hot on the heels of the pair's televised and behind-the-scenes drama following Michael's unexpected announcement that he'll be leaving the show on May 13.
Neither Kelly nor Michael were in attendance, so presenter Dr. Oz had to step in to accept their hardware for them. “I don’t think they’re here… Will accept on their behalf — and Kelly and Michael will share it!” he said, according to Deadline. Following the win, both Kelly and Michael addressed it on Monday's LIVE.
"What did y'all do yesterday? We won an Emmy!" Kelly said, according to Entertainment Tonight, adding to her soon-to-be former co-host, "Cheers to you." For his part, Michael noted, "I know we sit up here in front of the camera, but they're the ones that make this show work. It's about a team. Congratulations to everyone here at Live!"
Meanwhile, Michael will officially leave LIVE next week to transition into his full-time gig at Good Morning America. Soon after, Kelly and the LIVE team will begin auditioning replacements for the former football player, who joined the show in 2012. Below, Anderson Cooper weighs in on the rumors that he may fill the co-hosting chair.
