Kyle Richards Reveals Mauricio Umansky Had a Blood Disease as a Child
The RHOBH cast member discussed her husband having neutropenia when he was a kid.
The swanky black and white gala Kyle Richards hosted during the July 15 episode of The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills had a special meaning for her — and husband Mauricio Umansky. The charity event and auction was held to benefit the Children's Hospital Los Angeles, and during the episode Kyle revealed the core reason why she chose to support that cause.
"When Mauricio was born, he had a blood disease called neutropenia," she revealed in the episode. "And he spent a good part of his life in Children's Hospital. So when we think about where we want to put our energy and our appreciation into, it's Children's Hospital Los Angeles."
According to Mayo Clinic, the disease "occurs when you have too few neutrophils, a type of white blood cells. While all white blood cells help your body fight infections, neutrophils are important for fighting certain infections, especially those caused by bacteria."
Previously, in an interview with BravoTV.com, Kyle opened up about the event, which she said in the episode cost "six figures," and the cause that holds a special place in her life. "I've been working with Children's Hospital for years now, and it's the charity that's nearest and dearest to my heart," she said. "I've thrown parties for a lot more people, but because it was my first time throwing an actual fundraiser with a live auction and a silent auction — I mean I have auctioneers and everything — and a performance, I really wanted to keep it sort of manageable."
