Why Kyle Richards Is Heartbroken Over Portia Umansky's Next Chapter: "My Job Is Over"
The RHOBH cast member is anticipating a major change to her schedule: "What will I do?"
Kyle Richards and Mauricio Umansky's youngest daughter is getting ready to fly the nest... or, at least, to drive out of the nest.
Portia Umansky, who viewers first met when she was just a baby on Season 1 of The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills, is officially a California state driver's license holder.
Now that Portia has free rein on the road, Kyle is giving up one of her major parenting responsibilities: driving her to school.
During an Amazon Live stream on August 5, Kyle lamented about not being able to drop Portia off at school.
"When she goes back to school, which is in a couple of weeks, I guess, I won't be driving her for the first time," she said. "My job is over, guys. This is very depressing. It is very depressing."
Kyle, who also has daughters Farrah Brittany Aldjufrie, Alexia Umansky, and Sophia Umansky, marks Portia's new driving freedom as the end of an era.
"I mean I've been a mom for a million years and I've been having to get up and take a child to school for as far as I can remember, all my adult life, and now I don't have to drive her to school anymore. And, oh my gosh, it's just so wild to me," Kyle said, noting that it will be a big change to her morning routine. "Usually I'm up, then I work out, I take her to school, and then I come back and I go to work."
In addition to taking herself to school, Portia has been using her license to do other things — that don't require Kyle's presence.
"Now I'm like, 'What will I do with that extra time and how will I catch up with her in the morning when she's so busy?'" Kyle continued on her Amazon Live stream. "Now she does errands because she drives. I'm like, 'Where are you Portia?' She's like, 'Oh, I'm doing some errands.' I think she really loves saying that too."
In June, Portia was gifted a Porsche car to celebrate her next chapter as a driver.
Portia Umansky's road to getting her driver's license
Back in January, Mauricio confirmed on social media that he was taking Portia out to practice her driving.
"Teaching this kid how to drive now!" Mauricio said in a video he shared on his Instagram Story. "Here we go! Scary!"
In February, Kyle chatted exclusively with The Daily Dish about Portia getting out on the road.
"That is very stressful for any mom," she said about Portia practicing. "She's extremely responsible, and she's doing great driving, [but] no matter what happens, it's really scary."
Now, Portia has proved that all of her driving practice paid off.
