Lisa Vanderpump: My Secret to a Happy Marriage

The RHOBH star on how she's kept a successful union with Ken Todd.

By Hilary Hughes

Viewers of The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills and Vanderpump Rules are no strangers to the fact that Lisa Vanderpump appears to really, truly have it all. Fulfilling, challenging career? Check. Gorgeous home? Loving Family? Closet we'd commit a series of felonies for? Check, check, check. Lisa and her husband Ken have a wonderful relationship as well, and the RHOBH star credits support and respect for their happy marriage.

How to Watch

Catch up on The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills on Peacock or the Bravo App.

Lisa opened up to Parade in a recent interview, talking about the balance she and Ken have been able to strike both in and out of the spotlight. The two just recently celebrated their 31st anniversary with family and friends in Mexico.

What's her secret to maintaining a happy marriage? “It sounds cliché, but I think having respect for each other and being kind to one another," she says. "Of course, you have trials and tribulations like everybody does, but we have a sense of humor about things as well. We’re not taking ourselves too seriously, and I think most people watching Housewives know that I do love a laugh, and I’m married to somebody that supports everything I do.”

Ken's support hasn't gone unnoticed on this season of RHOBH, which has been rife with some hair-raising drama. Lisa doesn't seem too bothered by the rumors and gossip, though, and continues to keep it real. "It’s just all sensationalism, and then you read about it on Twitter and you just have to ignore it or make a statement, but for the most part it’s nonsense," she says. "People should just relax and watch the show and then judge it from there. I just have to ignore it unless it comes from somewhere reputable. One thing that reality television does give you is a thicker skin. I remember the first time something was written about me and it wasn’t true, I was so indignant and I burst into tears. I remember sitting in my restaurant thinking, ‘how could they?’ Now I’m like, ‘Oh, whatever!"
