Lisa Vanderpump Reveals the One "Problem" She Had as a Judge on Pooch Perfect

The Vanderpump Rules restaurateur explains why working on the new competition series felt more "like a vacation."

Lisa Vanderpump is back on TV in a major way this March. Not only did her new series, Overserved with Lisa Vanderpump, premiere on E! last week, but we will also soon see her as a judge in the upcoming dog grooming competition, Pooch Perfect.

"To be asked to be a judge on a competition show for ABC was just a great compliment," Lisa said during a recent interview with The Daily Dish. "But put that aside — to be asked to be a judge on a competition show about dogs, I didn’t even think about it for longer than five seconds. I said, OK, because I just love dogs so much."

Of course, anyone familiar with Lisa knows that. Not only does she have her own menagerie of pet pooches at home at Villa Rosa, but she also famously advocates for the well-being of dogs and animals everywhere, launching the Vanderpump Dog Foundation in 2016, followed by the Vanderpump Dogs rescue center in Los Angeles in 2017.

Even though she's used to being surrounded by pups, getting the chance to see these master groomers work their magic on the dogs on Pooch Perfect was a real treat for Lisa. "If they’re going to dye a dog pink or something, they’re standing there, and they’re powdered, and they’re pampered. And a lot of these dogs are show dogs, so they really show off, and you see them as they trot down the runway," she said. "It was like a vacation for me seeing all these dogs."

But when you love dogs as much as Lisa, it's not always easy to get into judge mode. "The only thing that was a problem for me is sometimes I really wanted to get stuck in there, and I had to kind of hold myself back. I was, you know, like standing behind the desk sometimes, and I would really want to go over, and I would sometimes go rogue when I was on the set and just kind of go and talk to the groomers when they should be concentrating, just to get my hands on the dog," Lisa confessed. "I don’t know. It’s just part of my DNA. I just love them."

Despite having to keep her affection for the dogs in check while filming Pooch Perfect, Lisa still had "sooooo much fun" with fellow judges Jorge Bendersky and Dr. Callie Harris, as well as host Rebel Wilson, as she shared on Instagram last month.

Even Lisa's dogs can't wait for the new series.

Lisa added that Pooch Perfect, in addition to all of her new projects, is bringing something to TV that we could all definitely use right now. "I think all [the] shows are so different," she told The Daily Dish. "But [they all have that] feel-good factor."
